Letter to the editor submission.

Subject: suspended officer Sgt. Jim Mauro was a no-show on Wednesday at the opening day of his police service act hearing.!

What arrogance and at the same time stupidity suspended police Sgt Mauro is exhibiting with his actions. If you were charged as he is, would you not show up with your legal representative and defend yourself vs. Seeing the hearing proceed without your presence.I applaud the officials overseeing this hearing allowing it to finally proceed without him and his lawyer, Mauro in the end owns that all by himself, he indeed does have a most hubris personality.!

Mauro can use his un-described illness to all concerned but I sat not all that far away from him in a Robins coffee shop within the past month. He was looking as he always has that being not all that sick and was talking up a storm with the person he was sitting with, so how ill is he really.??

And now I will turn my attention to Mayor Hobbs and his calling this a witch hunt, yet in reviewing the sworn testimony of police woman Julie Tilbury she sure spells it all out vs. Hobbs feeble excuses of not being able to remember or that he was working long hours on his girlfriends hair salon and had a lung infection blah blah blah. Officer Tilbury clearly stated that Hobbs at the time told here that if he found out who wrote the letter he would seek a civil lawsuit against that person, Hobbs once again forgot this happened, how convincible and honest was he really during his testimony is what I wonder. It is no secret that Hobbs and Mauro are long term friends, maybe that has all changed now, regardless Mauro and his antics have cost the taxpayers approximately $350,000.00 in wages and benefits with his close to 2 year paid suspension. So his family put out a statement to the media blaming the absolute power of the police chief of the day Bob Herman for Mauro's situation, yet he cannot bring himself to terms that his very own actions brought this entire thing about, he did play a key role in it all but somehow he appears not to be able to wrap his head around that fact.
So we will all wait until mid March to learn the final outcome of a process that should be dealt with I would think a 6 month time period maximum.

Now we also await the outcomes of Sgt. Dan Taddeo as well officer Toni Grann trials both in the provincial court and internally as well, more tax dollars being wasted. The Thunder Bay police as of today have "4" ongoing lawsuits and as  of today we have 3 additional officers Det. William Wowchuck, Det.-Const. Ron Popowich and Det.-Const. Brad Bernst who have been accused by the person they arrested that the officers committed assault and stole money from him during the arrest and a hearing will be done and directed by chief J.P Levesque.

So we may be looking at yet another lawsuit and maybe more possible suspensions with pay of these 3 officers pending the outcome of the findings by the new chief.

If one was to add up the costs to the taxpayer of the Mauro, Taddeo and Grann suspensions that dollar figure would be in the neighbourhood of $700,000.00 to date, which too me is obscene.
