City council votes to keep travel budget as is

By tbnewswatch.com

City councilors have voted to keep their travel budget the way it is.
City Clerk John Hannam proposed a $10,000 cut to the travel budget for city councilors last week. That would have brought the travel expenses down to $20,000 a year.
Hannam said the cut would have reflected what council actually spends on average in a year.
But the majority of councilors voted to keep the travel budget the way it was.
Mayor Keith Hobbs said he was trying to lead by example by cutting his own travel budget.  He said he's been able to save money by driving to places rather than flying but that idea was also shot down by council.
Council resumes their budget deliberations next Tuesday and Wednesday night.
