Potholes on Thunder Bay's Streets....

What Steps should I take after Encountering a Pothole?

  • note the location of the pothole (address or main intersection) – use GPS if possible, to note the longitude/latitude of the pothole
  • use a digital camera with an accurate date/time stamp and take a picture of the pothole and of any damage that your vehicle may have sustained as a result of having come into contact with the pothole
  • write down a statement and have anyone else that saw it or experienced it or felt it write a statement
  • take your vehicle to a mechanic and have him/her provide you with an assessment of the damage and an estimate of how much it would most likely cost to repair the damage caused by the pothole.
  • Contact the  City of Thunder Bay's office of the city clerk @ (807) 625-2230   or bring your information to them.
  • You will be compensated for damages to your vehicle...and tell city hall I sent you..:)
