This afternoon I ran into an old and dear friend...his name is Stewart, aged 54 and it was only one month ago that I saw him at the very same Shoppers Drug mart when he was picking up a prescription for himself and I was picking one up for a friend.
I'm both SHOCKED and DISMAYED by what he told me today...he has a HUGE in-operable tumor-mass on his bladder and prostrate gland and is now on CHEMO therapy.
He was supposed to have a 3 day session of Chemo last week but could not because his WHITE BLOOD count was extremely low.
Now honestly I ask all of you out there...does any of this make an ounce of sense to you...in a mere month's time my friend has gone from being well with a minor problem with urinating to having in-operable cancer...thank GOD I have a great-awesome family doctor is all I can say.
In closing...I told my friend Stewart that I would be praying for him and for him to never give up praying and hoping to be cured of this terrible disease.
The even BIGGER QUESTION in my mind is...among the estimated 30,000 to 40,000 people in this city who DO NOT have a family doctor...How much other SERIOUS-DEADLY illness's out there that have not been diagnosed...because of this severe shortage and MASSIVE HOLE in our local health care community-system..!!!
