New is nice, old is owing

It seems to be rather apparent to everyone that every time a project is put forth by city council there erupts quite a disagreement among our city residents. Perhaps our wise city councillors should question why this is so.
I believe that the citizens of this beautiful lakeside city are now asking themselves these questions and that they would really like them to be answered.
The first thing is why is the city still collecting over $2 million a year on the hospital debenture which was paid off in full a few years ago? Was not the original referendum for a loan was to build a new hospital? Is it not in fact illegal to still be collecting this money after the fact that this debt has already been paid off?
Why does every approved project end up being millions of dollars over budget?
How can the city raise property taxes by 1 to 3 per cent and call this fair and reasonable when the average wage earner has not had a raise for years?
The city cannot afford the properties it already owns, namely the conservatory and Municipal golf course which probably should really be considered as an “historical site.”
So let’s build an event/convention centre in an area that will be difficult to access.
Yes it would be nice to have new things but how about looking after all the old things first?
