Good morning Keith,
 
I have finally received information requested from the city archives department as noted below and I believe it is something you should check into as far as departmental costs increases goes. We as a city cannot afford for these legal costs to continue to rise in the manner in which they have from year to year as you will see below.
 
A/ City Solicitor and Legal Services/Outside Legal Services
2010 = $114,000.00 expended
2011= $347,000.00 expended
Note: This tripled in cost from year to year
 
B/ Human Resources Outside Legal Fees
2010= $95,300.00 expended
2011= $146,933.00 expended
Note: This is 1 and 1/2 times greater year to year
 
Finance and Corporate Services Outside Legal Fees
Note: These costs relate to tax registration activities and some costs are recovered through property taxes.
 
In 2010 we paid out $38,025.07 in order to recover $26,888.13 at a net cost to the city of 
$11,136.94!! ( would you spend your money in this fashion??)
 
In 2011 we paid out $19,958.71 in order to recover $18,248.64 at a net cost to the city of 
$1,710.07!! ( would you spend your money in this fashion??)
 
In closing please advise  via return email your comments and or concerns regarding the above information.
